The AGV 2023 Challenge - 900km - fifty edition - a ride for 50 bikers, all Mountain style.

The AGV 2023 Challenge - is a MTB challenge, in the all-mountain style with strong uphills, mind-boggling

downhill, back-river biking, pushing bike to cross situations where you can not pedal, etc. 

This challenge you must win yourself, that is, if you complete the course daily, without the use of medium 

engine you will receive a  A BIG VOLTA Mandala.
 

There will be timing in 2023!

It will be 9 days of insane pedals by three Brazilian states (Rio de Janeiro, Minas Gerais and São Paulo). This happens in the Southeast region of Brazil, leaving Paraty, winning mountain ranges such as Serra do Mar Mountain, Bocaina Mountain(SP), Serra Negra Mountain(MG), Serra de Ibitipoca Mountain (MG), Serra de Lima Duarte Mountain (MG ) and Serra Fluminense Mountain (MG), and finishing at Rua das Pedras in Búzios.

The bikers can choose to pedal in one or more sectors(Sector 1, Sector 2, Sector 3) in the all-mountain style. There will be no cut-off time and each participant will receive the GPS files with the daily routes.

Program

Day 1 - Arrive in Rio de Janeiro, Tom Jobin-Galeão Airport (GIG) and depart for Paraty Hotel

Day 2 - Small bicycle rides along the beaches of Paraty and return to the hotel to shower.

-Day 5 - 07/23/2023 (ride) – Formoso(SP) / Sta. Rita Jacutinga(MG) - 115km(approx) 

SECTION 2: SANTA RITA CITY / PEQUERI CITY
-Day 6 - 07/24/2023 (ride) – Sta. Rita Jacutinga(MG) / Olaria(MG) - 90km(approx) 
-Day 7 - 07/25/2023 (ride) - Olaria(MG) / Lima Duarte(MG) 60km
-DAY 8 - 07/26/2023(ride) - Lima Duarte(MG) / Pequeri(MG) - 108km

SECTION 3: JUIZ DE FORA CITY / BÚZIOS CITY 
-Day 9 - 07/27/2023 (ride) - Pequeri(MG) / Duas Barras(RJ) - 107km 
-Day 10 - 07/28/2023 (ride) - Duas Barras(RJ) / Barra do Sana(RJ) - 78km 
-Day 11 - 07/29/2023 (ride) – Barra do Sana(RJ / Armação de Búzios(RJ) - 70km

Why do we ride the cities of Paraty, Ibitipoca and Buzios in Brazil?

PARATY(RJ): This old port, where most of our colonial wealth was exported to the Old World (Europe), is the place where the turquoise blue of the Atlantic Ocean touches the green bands of pristine rainforest. All this charm, along with the old gold path, trails, and dirt roads in the surrounding mountains combined with it's prime location between two of the major Brazilian cities (Rio and Sao Paulo) already attracts many cultural events to Paraty and gives this historic city the ideal conditions for the development of an international event MTB.

BUZIOS (RJ):Located in the state of Rio de Janeiro, it is a small peninsula much frequented by tourists worldwide. With over 20 beaches with crystal clear waters, Buzios is perfect for scuba diving, surfing, windsurfing, sailing and other water sports. The buzz is because of the sophisticated bars and international cuisine restaurants mostly concentrated in the trendy and famous Rua das Pedras.

IBITIPOCA (MG)– “The mountain that explodes!” A little information about the Tupi-Guarani (Brazilian indigenous language) origin of the word 'Ibitipoca'. It means “mountain that explodes”, from the combination of the two words "ybytyra"(stone) and "pok" (explodes).

Ibitipoca is the largest outcropping of quartzite in the world, which explains the high incidence of lightning during periods of heavy rains that explodes on contact with the quartzite on the ground.

The Ibitipoca State Park was chosen by Traveller's Choices 2013 as the 3rd best Latin America Park and the 2nd best in Brazil. It has a biological reserve that "embraces" the park forming a protective belt and cushions it from the impact of civilization, allowing many species to interact, reproduce and search for food and shelter.

We invite bikers to the bucolic Conceição de Ibitipoca Village to experience this preserved "belt" of lush native forest.
